James Miller is a mixed media artist born in Emmitsburg, MD, currently working out of West Philadelphia. Beginning their art journey in High School as a hobby blacksmith, they have learned my artistic skills from field experts at Saint Joseph's University and the University of Melbourne. Working across disciplines in art and psychology, their primarily sculptural work focuses on themes of grief, mental illness, and recovery. They have produced work in two and three dimensions utilizing mediums including ceramic, soapstone, plaster, foam, linocut, etching, watercolor, charcoal, wood, steel, aluminum, and silver. James has recently participated in two group exhibitions showcasing their thesis work, Truth Finding In Grief in both the Metamorphosis: Echoes of Process exhibition at the Maguire Art Museum, and Philadelphia Sculptors All Into One exhibition at the at Moore College of Art. James currently serves as a member of the Philadelphia Sculptors Steering Committee where they help facilitate sculptural exhibitions around the Philadelphia area.
